Community Spirit

ALSO is a not for profit community based organisation and benefits greatly from the involvement and support of volunteers. There are plenty of jobs to go round and there is a volunteer assisting or leading most aspects of ALSO's services and projects.

Our main volunteer opportunities include:

• Office Administration - Our office relies heavily on volunteers, duties include: answering incoming calls, taking messages, answering phone enquires, taking event bookings, membership, handling incoming and outgoing mail, organising mail outs plus a variety of general admin support.
• Directory - The Community section of our Annual Gay & Lesbian Business and Community Directory is compiled by volunteers each year. This position is generally filled by student placements with support from the other office volunteers.
• Board of Management (BOM) - ALSO's Board consists of a maximum of 12 Directors. They attend monthly meetings where they are involved with setting policies and procedures and are encouraged to become involved in ALSO projects.
• Events and Fundraising Committee (EFC) - Our EFC committee meets once a month. The committee is responsible for organising a variety of events for our members and their friends. From coming up with the ideas to helping organise and host events, the EFC is a fun way for people to be involved with ALSO and the community.
• Community Development Committee (CDC) - Our CDC committee meets once a month. The committee is responsible for many of ALSO's community initiatives such as our Senior's Project and our very popular ALSORTS - A sexuality awareness resource.
• ALL SO Fabulous Opportunity Shop - Located at 259 Smith Street, Fitzroy the shop is open 10am - 5.30pm Monday - Saturday. Shop manager Claude always needs volunteers to help out with customer service and sorting out the many donations we receive. The shop is a fun and supportive place to spend a few hours so please contact Claude on (03) 9419 2696 or shopvollies@also.org.au
